The first Asian consultation on the prevention of HIV related
to drug use
28 - 31 january 2008, Goa, India
Organizers
The Asian Consortium on Drug Use, HIV, AIDS and Poverty is a voluntary network of prominent NGO's, INGOs and service providers working together on collective issues of HIV prevention, access to health, food, harm minimization and mainstreaming towards poverty alleviation among drug using populations in Asia
Consultation
An epidemic of HIV and AIDS driven primarily by unsafe injecting drug practices is sweeping across Asia. Many countries in Asia are experiencing unprecedented economic growth but the progression of HIV can slow down this economic groeth through decimation of the human resource capital of countries.
This consultation is the result of an increasing acknowledgement by all sectors working with HIV and drug abuse that thinking is required to develop sufficient and effective responses to the impact of HIV within injecting drug communities. An Asian context will bind the consultation together, creating a framework for dialogue, debate, and consensus for all participants.
This consultation will be primarily issue driven and as such a broad range of abstracts from all sectors is welcomed.
Venue
Kala Academy, Panaji, Goa
